Best Practice Statement

I attended the Wounds UK conference in Harrogate last month and was struck by the theme – making the case for change: embracing guidelines, processes and patient partnerships.

It was evident that the theme had been embraced wholeheartedly in the symposium that launched the UK “Best Practice Statement for Holistic Management of Venous Leg Ulcers.”

The document challenges some myths around leg ulcer management, such as inelastic bandages, such as Actico™, are not suitable for immobile patients.

In fact Inelastic bandages can be used on both mobile and immobile patients, as fluctuations in pressure can be achieved even with small or passive movements to facilitate venous return.
I would recommend that anyone who manages patients with venous leg ulcers takes a look at this invaluable document.
