Using super-absorbent dressings over compression is common in some areas.
Is this actually best practice? No, according to the UK Best Practice statement which calls it a myth that needs busting.

The recently launched UK Best Practice Statement for Holistic Management of Venous Leg Ulcers¹ states that Super-absorbent dressings can be used under compression if the product effectively contains exudate to prevent maceration – e.g Flivasorb™. They should not be used over compression, as sub-bandage materials and bandages soaked in exudate could result in further damage of surrounding tissues.
