Activa British Standard Hosiery Indications & Contraindications

Indications

14-17mmHg – British Standard Class 1 FP10/GP10

Provides light/ mild compression and should be used for early intervention, superficial signs of venous disease or early varicose veins where oedema is not present.

Activa® Class 1 hosiery should also be considered post operatively and on long distance travel to help prevent deep vein thrombosis in at risk groups.

18-24mmHg – British Standard Class 2 FP10/GP10

Provides medium/ moderate compression and should be used in the management of moderate signs of venous disease, medium severity varicose veins and as part of the treatment to prevent the occurrence and recurrence of venous leg ulcers.

Activa® Class 2 hosiery should also be considered post operatively and on long distance travel to help prevent deep vein thrombosis within at risk groups.

25-35mmHg – British Standard Class 3 FP10/GP10

Provides firm/ strong compression and should be used in the management of severe signs of venous disease, severe varicose veins and as part of the treatment to prevent the occurrence and recurrence of venous leg ulcers.

Contraindications

Activa British Standard Hosiery Contraindications

Diabetes - unless after specialist referral and under strict supervision

Arterial insufficiency/arterial disease/ischaemia according to vascular assessment

Ankle Brachial Pressure Index (ABPI) of less than 0.8 or greater than 1.3, unless after specialist referral and under strict supervision and regular follow up

Congestive cardiac failure as compression could lead to cardiac overload

Peripheral neuropathy

Rheumatoid arthritis unless under medical supervision

Known sensitivity to the fabric of the stockings

Distorted limb shape which would affect the fit of the device.

Care instructions

  • Activa hosiery can be machine washed up to 40 degrees and guaranteed for 100 washes.

  • Do not tumble dry or iron as this can affect the compression.

ActiLymph® Compression Hosiery Indications & Contraindications

Indications

ActiLymph® 18-21mmHg - European Class 1 FP10/GP10

Provides light compression and should be used for early/mild chronic oedema, lymphoedema - where the oedema is light to moderate with little shape distortion. ls also suitable for chronic oedema, lymphoedema, lipoedema, prophylaxis, maintenance therapy, palliative use and patients who are pressure sensitive.

ActiLymph® 23-32mmHg - European Class 2 FP10/GP10

Provides medium compression and should be used in cases of moderate to severe chronic oedema or lymphoedema.

ActiLymph® Class 2 hosiery can be used as part of the treatment for, and to provide maintenance therapy of chronic oedema and lymphoedema.

ActiLymph® 34-46mmHg - European Class 3 FP10/GP10

Provides strong compression and should be used for severe chronic oedema and lymphoedema. However, there should be only slight or minor limb shape distortion.

Contraindications

ActiLymph® Compression Hosiery Contraindications

  • This hosiery may be unsuitable where there is heavy exudate and for large wounds
  • For large or irregular-shaped limbs, compression bandaging or an adjustable wrap system may be indicated until the limb size and shape is suitable for a compression garment
  • Current acute inflammatory episode
  • Acute deep vein thrombosis
  • Fragile or damaged skin, though it may be used over an appropriate dressing
