It is estimated that approximately 2% of the adult population in the UK is affected by lower limb ulceration (over 1 million patients) and yet less than a quarter receive appropriate assessment and treatment. This unwarranted variation of care and the under use of evidence-based best practice results in sub-optimal healing rates and increased NHS spend.

The Commissioning for Quality and Innovation Assessment (CQUIN) aims to enhance patient outcomes through excellence and continuous improvement. The CCG14: Assessment, diagnosis and treatment of lower leg wounds CQUIN aims to counteract the underuse of compression by achieving 50% of patients with lower leg wounds receiving appropriate assessment, diagnosis and treatment in line with NICE Guidelines.
