L&R are shortlisted for the HSJ Partnership Awards 2022!


L&R Medical and South West Yorkshire Partnership FT are delighted to announce that they have been shortlisted for Most Effective Contribution to Clinical Redesign at the HSJ Partnership Awards 2022, recognising their outstanding contribution to healthcare – in what has been an exceptional and challenging period across the sector.

Despite the demanding circumstances of the past 2 years, over 190 entries have been received for this year’s HSJ Partnership Awards, with 123 projects making it to the final shortlist. The volume and standards of applications has been a true testament to those health and social care staff, who continue to push outstanding work and transformational projects across the sector.

The judging panel was once again made up of a diverse range of highly influential and respected figures within the healthcare community, including Dr Matt Aiello (National Programmes Lead, Education Reform, Health Education England); Dr Elena Bechberger (National Programme Director – LVHC Programme, NHS England and NHS Improvement); Claire Igoe (Head of Environmental Sustainability - Manchester University FT) and Vinice Thomas (Director of Nursing and Quality, NHS England and NHS Improvement).

Following the intense and in-depth judging process, L&R Medical and South West Yorkshire Partnership FT were shortlisted, ahead of the official awards ceremony to be held in March. Standing out amongst tough competition from hundreds of other exemplary applicants, L&R Medical and South West Yorkshire Partnership FT have been selected based on their ambition, visionary spirit and the demonstrable positive impact that their project “Reducing the burden of wounds through workforce optimisation” have had on patient and staff experiences within the health sector.

In partnership with L&R UK, South West Yorkshire Partnership Trust, implemented a 3-step transformation plan for leg ulcer care. Consisting of a best practice leg ulcer pathway and self-care delivery model to facilitate self-care and education to embed sustainable practice.

An independent audit identified in 84 of the 95 patients healed by week 24, a further 10 patients had healed by week 42. Further to these outcomes:

  • Nursing hours per patient reduced from 24.5 to 1.3, releasing up to 95% in nursing hours back to care
  • Total cost per patient reduced from £2,168 to £361, saving up to 83% in total cost of care per patient
  • Product cost per patient reduced from £629 to £177, saving up to 72% in product costs per patient
  • As well as reported improvements to workforce wellbeing and job satisfaction and a potential reduction in Co2 emissions and product waste.
